Egan Frantz (b. 1986 Norwalk, CT; based in Southport, CT) subtly examines the philosophical underpinnings of the material world and the artist’s role in it. His semiotic approach to painting — one that understands painting as a language — encompasses a variety of media including sculpture, installation, furniture design, and printed matter in addition to the traditional painted canvas or variations on that format.
Egan Frantz additionally produces the musical outfit Xeno & Oaklander (Dais Records). Together, they have toured North America, Europe and Russia numerous times, and have performed at festivals and art institutions such as SXSW, Austin, TX; SF MoMA, San Francisco, CA; The Kitchen, New York, NY; MoMA PS1, New York, NY; Kunsthalle Zürich, Switzerland; and the New Museum, New York, NY. Xeno & Oaklander have been featured widely in documentaries for Japanese TV NPK, Red Bull Music Academy, BOMB Sessions, and Live on KEXP.
